(Slay News) – After suffering a crushing defeat in her Wyoming primary race, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) compared herself to former President Abraham Lincoln during her concession speech.
President Donald Trump-endorsed challenger Harriet Hageman beat Cheney by a roughly 30-point margin and will now advance to the November general election, which she’s expected to win.
While comparing herself to the 16th POTUS, Cheney also suggested she may be planning her own run for president.
Cheney said in her concession speech: “Tonight, Harriet Hageman has received the most votes in this primary.
“She won. I called her to concede the race.
“This primary election is over but now the real work begins.
“The great and original champion of our party, Abraham Lincoln, was defeated in elections for the Senate and the House before he won the most important election of all.
“Lincoln ultimately prevailed, he saved our Union and he defined our obligation as Americans for all of history.
“Speaking at Gettysburg of the great task remaining before us, Lincoln said that, ‘We here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from this earth.’
“As we meet here tonight, that remains our greatest and most important task,” she said.
She also added that she “could have easily” won her primary race had she gone “along with President Trump’s lie about the 2020 election.”
